Training
Most people do not realize the enormous amount of time that the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department members put in in order to always be prepared for any situation. Most times, they are the first to arrive on a scene, and they need to be prepared with the knowledge to handle it, assist the EMT's and paramedics, and of course, ensure the safety of those injured.
Round the year classes for members include, but certainly are not limited to: First Responder Classes, Vehicle Rescue, Water Rescue, Smoke Training, Ladder Truck training, Propelling, etc. Every year, new classes arise and they are endless throughout the year, and Bridgeville members must attend them all, and they do so without fail. Some members take additional classes as well to further their own knowledge of fire and medical situations.
Regardless of the situation, you can rest assured that our members are trained to handle them!

MVA Training
Nothing beats hands on training...except maybe MOCK hands on training!
On Thursday, July 28, 2005, members of the BVFD along with several other departments got together for a mock motor vehicle accident scene. Departments arrived to the scene and treated it as if it were an actual multi-vehicle motor accident. Some of the family members played "victims" and were extracted from the vehicles, treated and then "released".

Hose Evolution
Members of the BVFD got together on Thursday, June 23rd, to train on Hose Evolution (hose advancement procedures). The reason for this type of training is so that members can learn how to efficiently get the hose off of the truck, and learn to be able to maneuver the hose around corners, up stairs, around objects, etc.

Vehicle Rescue Training
Congratulations to the members who just completed the Vehicle Rescue training classes that have been held since August 2004. Just more experience for the volunteers to ensure that our community and neighboring communities have the very best, well-trained people to help in emergency situations!

More Vehicle Rescue Training
Our members just completed yet another vehicle rescue class in March 2005.

Ladder Truck Training
Finally, our "troops" gathered around the infamous "Ladder Truck" to do some training. Thank you to Monroeville VFD #4 for taking time out of their busy schedule to come give us tips and pointers on running the truck and proper usage. Most members had the opportunity to ride in the bucket and learn maneuvering techniques in the air while the engineers also learned about maneuvering techniques on the ground.

Smoke Fire Training
Thanks to the Fryer Funeral Home property on Washington Avenue, the BVFD and neighboring departments used the buildings for "SM0KE TRAINING" for their firefighters. Hands-on training such as this is vital to the learning process for firefighters and helps prepare them for the "real deal". All day Saturday and Sunday, March 20 and 21, firefighters learned how to enter smoke-filled buildings to find trapped victims. The rooms are filled with actual "smoke" and the firefighters learn how to "mask up", enter the buildings, and exit properly with victims.
The BVFD welcomed Upper St. Clair, Presto, Mt. Pleasant, Rennerdale, and Fairview Fire Departments to our hometown. Click HERE for more pictures!
